Conversations, Inquiry and Professional Dialogue

Where research, practice and professional inquiry meet

This page brings together my current thinking, research interests, and invitations into dialogue.

Developing practical wisdom for complex practice

I am interested in how we develop the critical thinking and self-awareness required for intelligent action in complex and emotionally demanding contexts.

Developing this capacity requires more than technical skill. It calls for practical wisdom: the ability to make sound judgments in the moment, grounded in reflexivity, self-understanding, and professional integrity. I make my contribution by working with coaches through research, writing, and speaking to provoke thought and invite dialogue that foster both professional capability and personal capacity.

My current inquiry: What counts in supervision?

Coaching research

I am currently exploring how executive coaches experience and value different aspects of supervision, with particular attention to the supervisor’s interventions and ways of working that support development. By capturing a range of perspectives, I aim to build an evidence-informed picture of what coaches find most and least valuable in supervision, and how these experiences shape learning and professional growth.

The intention is to generate insights valuable to coaches, supervisors, and those involved in supervisor education, while also contributing to wider conversations about how high-quality supervision is understood and practised.

I am particularly interested in how coaches describe what makes supervision developmental, ethical, and fit for the complexity of contemporary coaching practice.

If this inquiry resonates with you, I would welcome the opportunity to hear your perspectives.

I would love to know your thoughts. Drop me a line and I’ll send you a copy of the article when it’s published.

Inviting dialogue and contribution

I contribute to professional conversations through speaking engagements that bring research, theory, and practice into dialogue. My focus is on making complex ideas accessible and engaging in ways that support critical thinking, reflection, and practical wisdom in professional practice.

I am regularly invited to speak at conferences, CPD events, and professional learning forums on topics relating to coach development, supervision, and the personal and professional capacities required to work well in complex and emotionally demanding contexts. My contributions are shaped by current research and are tailored to the interests and experience of the audience.

If you would like to invite me to speak, facilitate a CPD session, or contribute to a professional event, please get in touch to explore what would be most useful for your context.
